Winter Warm-Up Cooking Class!

Tired of dreary, grey skies and cold weather? Let’s shake off the winter blues with a hands-on cooking class where you’ll learn a few red-hot recipes! Our main dish will feature the use of a pressure cooker to speed up the cooking process, so get ready to learn something new.

On Saturday, February 11 from noon to 2pm, I’ll be leading participants in creating three great dishes:

  • Aloo Chana Masala (Potato Chickpea Curry)
We’ll start off the class by making our own garam masala spice blen from scratch (you’ll get a small jar to take home). In Hindi, garam means “hot” and masala, “mixture of spices”. Garam masala (“warming spices”) is an aromatic blend of ground spices that is used in many Indian dishes.
  • Roti/Chapati (Flatbread)
You’ll be amazed at how easy these are to make, and how much money you’ll save instead of buying a prepared package from the grocery store. Roti (or chapati) is as flatbread which is common in South Asian cuisine.
  • Mexican Hot Chocolate
Moving from South Asia to North America for our dessert drink: Mexican hot chocolate. We’ll gain some inspiration from the ancient Mayans and Aztecs by whipping up the sweet, spicy and indulgent cure for this chilly winter.

Everything will be made from scratch and there will be time at the end of the class to enjoy the meal that everyone helps create. I will also provide recipe sheets so that you can practice re-creating these quick and tasty dishes at home.
