Kid(s) in the Kitchen!

I had my first “mini” client last week. She visited my kitchen for a baking class on carrot cake. Meet 4-year-old, Amaya!

She was adamant about baking carrot cake with me (actually she made it a point to remind me each time I saw her and her mom).

Buttering the cake pans was a breeze. Inquisitive Amaya found out why the pan needed to be greased and why parchment paper also needed to be used (so the cake won’t stick).

She even managed to get pouring liquids down to a science.

I’m not even going to talk about her egg cracking skills. Someone get this kid into Mensa.

Amaya wanted to make sure I got a photo of her licking the icing. How cute!

The finished product! The carrot cake was from a box (Duncan Hines), but we made the cream cheese icing from scratch. Amaya also had fun sprinkling the chopped walnuts onto the iced cake for decoration.

Amaya and I had so much fun that afternoon. She couldn’t wait to snack on a slice of that carrot cake.

  • Monique thank you so much for teaching Amaya how to bake Carrot cake. I had the biggest laugh on our way home that day as Amaya informed me that she enjoyed putting the tucans (pecans) on the cake lol. Amaya was so proud of the fact that you were impressed with her egg cracking skills and educated me on why butter isn't just for toast! Amaya enjoyed the cake A LOT (so did mom haha) and is looking forward to learning more about baking and cooking with you! I cant wait to show Amaya the pictures of her baking lesson with you :)
    • Anytime, Colleen! It was a pleasure having Amaya take the cake baking and decorating class. Eager to see what other classes she'll be interested in. :)
  • Thank you so much for sharing these pictures with me!! Amaya definitely had a fantastic time, she is just glowing in every picture. Colleen, I'm sure you are SOOOO proud of Amaya, she is really growing up so quickly. Monique, fantastic idea, & sharing these pictures, is a fabulous idea to get the word out & Amaya just shines & advertises tremendously!
  • That's so cute! Did you post this recipe somewhere? I can't wait to sign my God-daughter up for a class!!
    • Thanks Michelle! The recipe for buttercream frosting and fondant isn't posted yet, but will be in the future. I'm looking forward to having your God-daughter in an upcoming class! :)
