Virtual Cooking Classes

While you’re stuck inside at home, why not add some fun to your day and learn to cook a new recipe? During these live and interactive virtual cooking classes, Monique will teach you how to prepare some of her favourite meals in the safety of your own kitchen.

Not only will you learn a recipe using readily available ingredients, you’ll also hear some helpful tips, techniques and new ways of approaching cooking. Gather your family for this virtual class and cook alongside Monique where you’ll be able to explore different cuisines.

How to I join a virtual cooking class with Monique?

To register, please use the contact form and select “Virtual Class Registration” with details on which class you’d like to participate in. After you book, you will receive an email with details on how to join. Please use Zoom to participate on your desktop or mobile device.

How much does this class cost?

Prices may vary, but for the classes posted below, the cost is currently $25CAN per household.

How many people can participate in a booking?

As many people that are living in your household (and can fit in your kitchen). There may be other attendees in the Zoom session as well, depending on the date of the class.

Do you have a calendar of virtual classes?

Because of the uncertainty of the pandemic, there are no “set” scheduled list of virtual classes at the moment. If you’re interested in booking a virtual class, just send Monique a message via the contact form and we’ll set something up that fits our schedules. 🙂

How long is the virtual class?

Classes range in length from 60-90 minutes. This is more than enough time to prep and cook one full recipe together. We’ll also have time to answer any questions you may have about the recipe, ingredients, or its history.

What kind of recipes will I learn how to make?

The following recipes will be featured for our virtual classes:

  • Jamaican Beef Patties
  • Ackee & Saltfish with Fried Dumplings
  • Saltfish Fritters with Quick & Spicy Pepper Jelly
  • Chocolate Rum Balls and No-Bake Cheesecake
  • Potato Chickpea Curry with Roti
  • Baked Mac ‘N’ Cheese with Fried Chicken Bites

How many people does one of your recipes make?

Most classes are designed to feed a family of four.

What do I need in order to join the virtual cooking class?

Your smartphone, tablet, or laptop so that you can join the class online (don’t forget an Internet connection).

You should also have some basic kitchen tools on hand. Things like a cutting board, knife, mixing bowl, spatula, measuring cup/spoons, saucepan, frying pan, and an oven/cooktop/range are the standard equipment you’ll need in order to follow most recipes. A detailed list of the equipment you’ll need will be sent to you before the class.

Leading up to the virtual class date, you’ll be sent a detailed shopping list with all the necessary ingredients to be purchased beforehand, along with extra instructions so that you can properly prepare. When everything is in it’s place (mise en place) it makes the recipe go much more smoother.

The Zoom link will emailed to you the day before class. You’ll also get a copy of the recipe, so that you can refer to during the lesson as well as use for future meals in your kitchen.

Can I be accommodated for dietary restrictions?

Since everything is made from scratch, we’ll try our best to make sure that adjustments can be made for any special diets. Just let Monique know in advance.

Do you have any Kid-Friendly cooking classes?

Sure do! Parent supervision is suggested at each virtual children’s cooking class (especially if they’re on the younger side), and each lasts 45-60 minutes long. Children should be aged 6-13. Our kid-friendly recipes include:

  • No-Bake Granola Bars and Energy Bites
  • Broccoli Cheddar Soup with Cheese Garlic Biscuits
  • Breaded Fish Sticks with Tartar Sauce
  • Bean & Cheese Tortilla Pinwheels with Homemade Salsa
  • Fettucine Alfredo with Mushrooms

What happens if I can’t make my scheduled class?

Scheduled classes are non-refundable. If you don’t show up to a scheduled virtual class, no credit will be offered. If you’re unable to make it, you’re free to send someone in your place virtually.

I want to learn more recipes in the same class, and have it private for just me and my family? Do you do customized virtual classes?

Depending on what you’d like to learn how to cook, how many recipes, and the class length, Monique can offer customized virtual cooking classes. Prices will vary. Please inquire via the contact form.
